Enrollment FAQs

Q:

What is the enrollment process?

Initially, we will schedule a tour for you and your child at which you will meet the teachers and students. You can ask any questions you have at that time. We’ll have you fill out a contact form, and we will follow up with you.

After the tour, if you feel that New Horizons is a good fit for you and your family, your child will come in for a trial period of anywhere from one to three days at no cost to you. Upper School students will be given a schedule. All students will be teamed up with an ambassador to make sure that he or she is comfortable and can find their way around. Following the tour, you will meet with the principal to talk about enrollment procedures.

Q:

When is the enrollment period?

New Horizons has year-round enrollment.

After your child’s three-day trial, parents will be presented with the prorated tuition. They will need to pay the registration fee of $750 for their child to register, but their first tuition payment will not be until the first of the following month.

Q:

How will my son or daughter be assessed?

New Horizons uses the i-Ready assessment to gauge student ability.

Students are tested in four domains in math. Lower school students are tested in six domains in reading, three of which are decoding skills. Upper School students who are proficient in deciding will be tested in three domains in reading. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors also take the ACT in the early spring. Students may opt-out.

Q:

Do you have scholarships or financial aid?

Parents will need to apply for financial aid in the spring. The Nevada Opportunity Scholarship can provide a significant amount toward tuition.

You can find more information at Nevada Choice Scholarship Program.

New Horizons has its own financial aid application.  Depending on fundraising and grant award success for scholarships, New Horizons Academy may be able to provide a partial scholarship, depending on financial need.

Q:

Do students need to wear uniforms?

New Horizons does require its students to wear uniforms.

We do consider sensory issues for students and can modify uniform requirements if needed on the basis of a sensory-related disability.
